Throughout American history, important figures have made speeches that became part of our national tapestry. "Give me liberty or give me death," "A chicken in every pot and a car in every garage" "Ask not what your country can do for you", "I have a dream," Mr. Gorbachev, Tear Down That Wall "," thousand points light "… the list goes on and on. What is the contribution of the current presidents of this? Will his words" Mission Accomplished "to be remembered more like "I'm not a thief"? Did you say something memorable in a good way yet?
Most of the president 'famous' speeches to be famous just for posterity. Ingaurals Lincoln, JFK inagurual, and others were considered at the time as important events, but only won his full noterity over time. Patrick Henery's "Give me liberty of give me death" is not just a tag line a much more time, and it was not his most famous at that time. It was in the work of historians that his line he won immortality. Similarly FDR "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself" is have been lost to history if the economic situation had worsened and was not reelected. I think it is presumptuous for those living the story to make judgments immediate. To compare "mission accomplished" with "a day of infamy" without the benefit of time and distance is a disservice to the two speeches, in particular and history in general. That said, there are leaders whose contributions can be found in the rhetoric and those whose contributions are in their actions. actions JFK was weak and disjointed, and often ill-advised time, but his rhetoric was an inspiration.
