Its grain is usually wavy or inter-locked and the wood is quartersawn (cut at right angles to the growth ring). It is brought from Cameroon and other parts of Central America like the Congo and has been named Zebrawood because the dark brown stripes on its pale golden yellow or pale brown background make it look like a zebra. It looks beautiful when used in marquetry on wooden jewelry boxes.

English Brown Oak, on the other hand, is not a separate species of tree but rather an infected English Oak! The rich beautiful honey-brown color it gets is due to a fungal infection that changes the color of the wood. As time progresses, this color gets darker and darker but is a very attractive wood to use in wood inlays.

Similarly, Oak Burl is not a separate tree but a sort of malignancy that grows out of the tree because of stress caused by the elements or humans . It mostly develops in standalone oaks as it needs some space to grow and burlwood is almost always covered entirely by bark. Although Oak Burl is a hardwood, it is fairly easy to work on it if you have the correct tools. And only the American oak burl can be subject to staining.
